Festivals are on the top of activities at every elementary school. We chose this format as a sufficiently informal and yet effective way to introduce the topic of different language not only to primary school students, but to the entire local community /parents and other family members, teachers, local residents, entrepreneurs and organizations, etc./. We want to present the best of the cultures mix that interact with each other in a given location and highlight what we can learn from each other and what unites us.
The added value of the project will be space for developing cooperation and informal partnerships, as well as strengthening children’s relationship to the place where they live and where they go to school.. A special class was set up for these pupils, where they mainly learned the Czech language until the end of the 2021/2022 school year, from September 2022, these kids will be gradually integrated into their new core classes.
BETWEEN THE CULTURES FESTIVAL

The students handled the topics of different cultures really creatively. You could view a photo book from your school stay in Slovakia, posters that took you to, for example, Italy, Vietnam, Iraq, Greece, Spain, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland or Sweden, or video medallions shot by kids of the 5th and 8th grades. There was also an exhibition of student works dedicated to the competition for the best festival logo.
ZŠ Barrandov children prepared a festival tasting menu for the visitors, which pleased many a gourmet. We could taste Afghan, Spanish, Lebanese or Canadian cuisine.
We organized a lecture for the 8th and 9th graders, the guest was the rapper / of Czech-Vietnamese origin / Raego, who spoke very openly about his life, failures as well as successes. The highlight of the whole day was the concert of the rapper Raego and his band, which took place on the school playground. The whole school and local residents of Prague 5 – Barrandov came to the concert. The entire festival ended with a projection of the film /Not/an ordinary boy, which we screened in the school cinema. This was followed by a discussion with children.
